Masters of the Future. Crafts and Design in Europe

«When we buy a handmade object, we come into contact not only with the personal history of the masters who made it, but also with their homeland, their collective cultural heritage. It is like expressing the essence of the place where a wine or cheese is made. It’s like when you speak a language, and you have an accent». These are the words of the Milanese gallery owner Jean Blanchaert, curator of the exhibition «Masters of the Future».

Until 30 June, Seville is hosting an exhibition of fine contemporary craftsmanship, with a total of 55 national and international pieces. Organised by Sevilla City Office and the Contemporary Association of Arts and Crafts, and promoted by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, this is a pioneering initiative in Spain and one of the cultural highlights of the year in Seville.

Artisans from all over Europe reinterpret traditional craftsmanship in a contemporary key in a privileged location, the Castillo de San Jorge.

 

Internationally renowned Sevillian workshops showcase Seville’s design and craftsmanship, with unique pieces from disciplines closely related to sacred art, such as goldsmithing, embroidery and bobbin lace-making; and others such as pottery, leather goods and ceramics, so characteristic and traditional of the city
